There are different workshops taking place in the Museum ”La Maison de la Pêche” – for children, adults and families.
All the workshops are proposed in French
Fish patchwork workshop
Create your own picture of a fish using the patchwork technique.
This activity is suitable for children (4 years+). During one hour the children, equipped with scissors, colourful fabrics and glue, can create a framed patchwork fish which they can hang on their room’s wall or offer to a person of their choice.
Knot tying workshop
Eager to discover the secret of nautical knots? Then this is the right workshop for you!
In one hour, you’ll discover the basics of ropework, the art of tying knots. This activity is for children over 7 years old and adults.
There are multiple types of knots: stopper knots, bend or decorative knots, just to name a few, and each group has a specific usage. Bowlines, overhand knot, figure-eight knot, Carrick bend etc., learn how to tie them, use them and take home your own knot board display.
Wristband and keychain workshop
What about making a wristband using some nautical knots?
This activity is suitable for children over 7 years old and adults. During this one hour workshop, you’ll learn how to make your own wristband using some basic knots. Different types of “macramé” technique, a keychain representing a traditionally dressed woman from Brittany… pick the colours and the shape and leave with your own creations.
The Monkey’s Fist workshop
Have you ever heard of Monkey’s Fist? What is that?
This activity is suitable for adults and children over 12 years.
If you have tried, you know that throwing a rope and aiming at the same time is not a that simple. The Monkey’s Fist is an ornamental knot tied at the end of a rope to serve as a weight. It allows seamen to pass ropes from one boat to another easily. Spend one hour learning how to make it, and take home your creation which will make for one of your most beautiful key chains.
The boat replica workshop
Become a marine carpenter for a day and build your own fishing boat. Choose this activity according to the age of your child:
- The workshop Tout P’tit Mousse for children from 4 to 6 years
- The workshop P’tit Mousse for children from 6 to 10 years
Using paint, markers and their imagination, children create their own replica of a fishing boat.
